Sopwith Camel metal parts?
Hi
I know this maybe not be the right forum but. I'm trying to build a 1/3 scale R/C model of a Sopwith Camel with the Replicraft plans. What I'm looking for is some better drawings or CAD drawings and Photos of the metal fittings used on the Sopwith . Yes I have looked at Nick's Sopwith Snipe Project Also does anyone know where I can get English Ash in Australia? I do not need much. Greg QLD Australia |
Sopwith Camel fittings
Hi Greg,
I have a complete, or at the very least largely complete set of Sopwith Camel drawings, if you need any copies of them. I usually buy any unusual timber at Australian Furniture Timbers. They are in South Melbourne though, so it might not be close enough to you, but there would be other potential suppliers. Someone else was asking about Sopwith Camel drawings, of the fittings I think. I don't remember who it was, but I am very happy to copy any drawings as required. Cheers, David. |
Hi Greg,
Have a look at MICK REEVES MODELS---his 1/3rd. scale Sopwiths---drawn from replicraft plans--are the best-I know 'cos iv'e built both Camel and PUP. His range of metal fittings--screws---paint chips and instrument faces deserve looking at. Cheers, Dave. |
Sopwith Camel fittings
Hi Dave
Yes I have looked at Mick's 1/3 Camel .I did get his 1/4 scale Camel with metal fittings--screws cowling , wheels. His 1/4 scale Camel does not have all the metal fittings shown on the Replicraft plans so I will have to make them myself as I would like to make it as close to the real plane as possible. David ('14-'18aviationcollector ) did you get my email Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been in Hospital :( Greg |
Hi greg,
Yes I did receive your e-mail thank you. I will get back to you as soon as possible. I am way behind on such administrative tasks as responding to e-mails, but I will respond to you and anyone else I need to reply to as soon as possible. Oh, and my PM inbox is full AGAIN! oops! :-( Regards, David. |
Sopwith drawings
Hi David
Are the drawings you have copies of original sopwith drawings? I have a Gwynne 8 vintage car chassis with no body and I'd like to make a body similar to sopwith fusalage 3/4 scale with a compressed tail. Gwynne engineering of Chiswick London made some of the Clerget Rotary engines so there is some logic to it. Could I trouble you to make me some copies of your drawings? perhaps you could email me direct on dt@architectureanddesign.co.uk regards dominic Quote:

If your aim is to duplicate all the metal fittings, as per full size, you will unquestionably fall into the trap of excess weight! Also --in 1/3rd scale you have VERY limited room up front to replicate cockpit and nose internal detail/fittings--and still find space for fuel tank etc.-----on mine, even with servos under pilots seat---i still had to 'blank off' ---cut short, the forward detail with a sheet of ply, painted black, from just (just) behind rudder bar, sloping up and backwards, to just behind instrument panel-----and the very fact of having servos behind C/G meant that lead, in copious amounts, had to be bolted to firewall. That was keeping the back end ultra light!!!!---Can't imagine 1/4 scale being any better though ! With 'scale' metal fittings back there---well----lot's of extra weight my friend----and you might be surprised at how much weight the covering and details on the outside add.... The Camel is (short moment) not forgiving of rearward C/G--regardless of Mick's statement on the plans! I think you're wish for that kind of internal accurracy might falter---as did mine---on the unforgiving altar of 'flyability'. But, all of this apart, I wish you the best of luck Greg. Dave. |
Sopwith Camel drawings
Hi Domonic,
I remember seeing your post but I must have forgotten about it, and I am sorry about that. I also received your e-mail. Yes the drawings I have are copies of the factory drawings, so they are the best you can get. You are very welcome to have copies of the drawings I have. Your project sounds very interesting! :) Cheers, David. |
camel blueprints
Excellent ...........thank you David.
Find out what the copies and postage (to the UK) will cost....or take a guess and let me know. Do you have a paypal account? if you reply to my email I can give you my address. I have a few cad renders of a fusalage body on the chassis I did if you're interested. regards Dom |
