best aviation film ever

Alright, i admit to being saddened by the reviews, so far, of the ROte Baron: i was looking forwrd to the movie: 5 min of flying in 2+ hrs: most disappointing. \ so tonight i am watching , in my opinion ranks as the top , or one of the top flying movies of all time: Porco Rosso, anyone planning a flying movie should be compelled to watch this film first,
the film's flying , much of the film is superb and if you have not seen the movie, you need to: end of review!

Jim!

Porco Rosso is the best. No doubt about it. Seen it tens of times as a Vhs then as DVD and recently finally on the big screen, as the film came to theatres here in Finland

Catfish! There is a lot about the film on the net. Several scenes on the YouTube, too. Here's one of the most beautiful scenes:

Unbelievably poignant scene. The great highway into eternity. More creativity in that one little piece than in the whole stupid Rote Baron movie.

I watched a coupe of days ago, thought it pretty good even for its age (1995? right?) In the sense of Anime Movies that's practically ancient.

It's from the same Anime studio that did "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away", as far as I know.

The opening scene of Macros Zero features some very nice animated dogfighting action scenes, if you are into modern jetfighters....speeds along the same line as the aircraft in Flyboys :p You-tube doesn't do it justice

Dark Blue World - Best Avaition Film

Dark Blue World - the Battle of Britian through the eyes of Czech pilots flying in England.

Amazon.com: Dark Blue World: Hans-Jörg Assmann,Juraj Bernáth,Charles Dance,Jaromír Dulava,Radim Fiala,Tara Fitzgerald,Caroline Holdaway,Krystof Hádek,Oldrich Kaiser,Lukás Kantor,Anna Massey,David Novotny,Timothy Otis,Viktor Preiss,Thure Riefenstein,L

Director Jan Sverák had access to a limited number of actual flying aircraft, so they were selective about when to use real planes and when to use animation. A good story, (with tragic post-war ending), great action and aviation scenes...if you haven't seen it, then you must. I can not wait until soneone makes a film of an equally quality about WWI aviation.

Films

I still think that no films have surpassed "The Blue Max" and "Tora. Tora, Tora" for the sheer magnificence of aircraft in flight in a movie.

When that excretable "Pearl Harbor" was showing, they reran Tx3 on the TV, and one could only wonder at how they created all these Japanese aircraft. Much better than the comic book PH.

"Dark Blue World" came out about the same time as PH. Imagine what that director could do with the funds that were wasted in PH.

"Wings" is still wonderful even if the aircraft are post-WWI for the most part. TBM shows the true speed of WWI aircraft, not the jazzed up 'Flyboys".

TRB is not even slated for a release here in Australia.

Can I add my vote for Porco Rosso?
I saw it first many years ago on TV. Finally got hold of it on DVD. One of my favourites.
Dark Blue World is a goer too!

Cheers,

Hugh

If we're talking about flying scenes and not being authentic, then it would be 1971's "Von Richthofen and Brown". If we're talking about flying and authenticity, then its 1969's "Battle of Britain", in my opinion.

'Battle of Britain', 'The Blue Max' and 'Tora,Tora,Tora' are at the top of my list. 'Dark Blue World' is an excellent film, although I don't rank it as highly as the above three purely from the perspective of flying sequences.

Despite the quality of the film overall, 'Hell's Angels' deserves a nod for capturing on file the performance capabilities of real WWI aircraft.

'Von R and Brown' is pretty terrible overall, but the flying scenes are actually surprisingly good.
