For those of you that plan on Mixing Color's Stephen Lawson's Site http://www.wwi-n-plastic.com/ and his build reveiws are an excellent source to reference which colors to use in order to mix, shade, and weather for the Albatross Colors you want. He is an unbeleivable artist and very skilled at replicating these colors from scratch.

In case your looking for some off the Shelf Colors MisterKit Carries a total of 8 Albatross specific Colors. 5 German and 3 Austro-Hungarian which you might find useful as a base alone or a start to weather.

Here is a break down of the MK Albatross COlors and their Designers and Manufatcuer's comments and suggestions regarding their use.

GERMAN
GC01 ALBATROSS RED BROWN
GC02 ALBATROSS MAUVE
GC03 ALBATROS PALE BLUE
GC04 ALBATROS PALE GREEN
GC05 ALBATROS GREEN

The first Albatross D.I 's were camouflaged on upper flying surfaces with Green and Red Brown. The D.I. 436/16, Albatross introduced the 3-terrain camouflage system, adding Pale Green to the others two colors.
But this was also the same camouflage being used by French machines at the time. So the Idflieg (Inspektion der Fliegertruppen) ordered that all ACFT factories change the camouflage in April 1917, from the Red-Brown to Mauve in order to avoid mis-identification mistakes between pilots. The Idflieg also eliminated the Pale Green color from that date on.

Green was also used for metal areas on the nose of some airplanes and Pale Blue was used for all undersurfaces.

GERMAN
Albatross Aircraft:
Three-tone camo on fighters:
Topside wings and tailplanes on fighters:
GC01 – Albatross Red Brown

GC04 – Albatross Pale Green

GC05 – Albatross Green

Two-tone camo on fighters:

Topside wings and tailplanes :
GC02 – Albatross Mauve
GC05 – Albatross Green

Undersides:
GC03 – Albatross Pale Blue

Austro-Hungarian
AH01 – Clear Doped Linen
AH02 – Sworl Yellow
AH05 ALBATROSS DARK GREEN

Albatross (OEF) fighters:
AH01 – Clear Doped Linen : (base overcoat for wings and tailplanes) "Most of Austro-Hungarian airplanes were delivered throughout the War in the scheme which was known as "plain finish". It consisted of wooden and linen surfaces simply covered with a clear and protective paint."

AH05 ALBATROSS DARK GREEN : (overall on some a/c's, only on metal surfaces on others)
AH02 – Sworl Yellow: (for that typical A-H camo on Dark Green surfaces) "Other camouflage attempts were made by ace Godwin Brumowsky and dealt with the upper surfaces of Oeffag Albatross D.IIIs belonging to his Flik (Fighter Squadron) 41J. Their pattern consisted of a coat of solid Dark Green (as a base) with super-imposed very tightly spaced Yellow Sworl's. Each Sworl was of approximately two or three inches of diameter"

I can't wait till mine arrives. Iam even thinking of trying the Hungarian Sworl pattern for the wings free hand.

What I was trying to say for those of you with this kit on order, I have limited suppiles of each color all of which are IN STOCK now. But as a few orders start coming those supplies will disappear quickly and i will have to re-order again which can take up to six weeks on avg. ? I was hoping to re-order early by generating orders now for the stock that is avaible now.

Order early and get all the colors you want right away.

Also note all colors now are full 1oz Contents for standard 1/2 oz pricing available only here as Misterkit is only filling these bottles full per a special agreement.

The kit gives markings for the D.III flown by Bertrab -- or Bertrass -- and once again I am confused. Black or "purple" fuselage? I've only seen two photos of this bird. Clearly the fuselage is not a dead black, as the black outlines around the cross are distinct. Also, one picture show the Alb with light-colored wheel covers and a central radiator, the other has dark wheel covers and the radiator appears offset. Two different planes? Substitute upper wing?
Any thoughts? I lean toward a dark purple, wine-colored fuselage. Not a bright purple.
Interestingly, the two Albatros Windsock specials contradict each other on this. Yes, I've read the earlier debate on this issue on the 'drome.
There seems to have definitely been a "Purple Man" flying opposite Mannock in this time period, and Jasta 30 was in the area. Why not this plane?
