Russian Nieuport 17
Hello!
http://www.wwi-models.org/Images/Vau...Ni_17_rear.jpg Is it accurate? Do you know unit and pilot? Do you have any other color scheme of a Russian wartime Nieuport 17 seen from above with pilot and unit names? Bye and thanks, Andrea |
Hi Andrea,
this model is an Eduard Nieuport 23 finished with the decals that come in the box. Supposed to be Kpt Brodovicz, 19th squadron, Imperial Russian Air Service, Spring 1917. Sorry, haven't a clue how authentic it is. Mike |
Thanks a lot! I read Nieuport 17 instead...
http://www.wwi-models.org/Images/Vaughan/Russian/Nie17/ I need a Russian Nieuport 17 depicted from above(and a Rumenian, a Russian, an Italian two-MGs ones by the way). What can I do? Thanks again, Andrea |
The wing roundals are incorrect, only the DUX manufactured aircraft had similar roundals, but the ratio of white is too high. The white rings should be narrower, about 1/2.
The colour scheme is a Nieuport 17 for 19th Corps Detachment in Spring 1917. Roundals in six positions, without white borders. [Source: The Imperial Russina Air Service by Alan Durkota] |

Mossie's information would mean the kit is even more inaccurate!!! However, as it is almost impossible to tell a 17 and 23 apart from most angles I don't suppose it matters that much.
In the Eduard blurb it does says it's Dux built. Mike |

Photo of the original, captured by Austro-Hungarian troops in Galicia in Winter 1917-18. The Dux roundels in the kit look OK to me, but if you don't like them, Blue Rider do a set in 1/48th
Sorry, pic didn't come through. One more try. |

Well yes, but I have to name it. And I am not sure i can use a 23 in my little game just for a problem of "labels". ;) If I did, I suppose that in game terms all the performances are the same, aren't they? The same speed class (we change every 20 km/h), the same basic maneuvers (yes, Ni.23 was a bit heavier but we have to simplify with our system), the same toughness. |
