I heard that the Red Baron was shot and killed through the side by a british foot soldier with an Enfield.

To save you from being bombarded by numerous posts as this has been gone over so many times that people have worn out keyboards, the only person who knows how Richthofen was killed is God.
Some say by an unknown Australian soldier (not British) with a rifle, some say by an Australian machine gunner, some say by Brown and his Sopwith Camel, and some say by Snoopy and his Doghouse. :D There is no solid evidence to point to one specific person as being the person who actually shot him down. Kind of like Bigfoot and Nessie, it is one of the great mysteries of life! Paul |
And to avoid the fire mission that would ordinarily ensue, the "unknown" Australian soldier was, I believe, Cedric Popkin. And many, many people here and elsewhere will tell you how the empirical evidence abounds to prove his case.
Captain Arthur Roy Brown, a Canadian driver of some achievement, is generally given credit for the victory--all claims to the contrary notwithstanding. And if it ain't so, it should be, 'cause it's a great story.... Shooter sends |
...but WHATEVER you do, don't ever credit Lothar von Richthofen for shooting down Albert Ball.

That's right...it was Bishop. But he couldn't identify the locale when he returned to base.

You're right. Absolutely right. But I never read where he denied it either. I bet they told him to keep quiet. In a polite fashion.

Hi Sopwith Camel
As you see by the short responses, many people on this Forum have a too low knowledge.. :D Quote:

If one of us knocks down the milk bottles, do we get to keep the dolly?

It is not that I doubt you. You probably are correct, since you may have sources that I do not. So, I can be wrong. Indeed, I have been corrected many times out here and I come to expect it. But when you want to act that superior, you should be willing to prove it. The original document will do amply. Ordinarily I would be prepared to accept a book or a magazine article, but in this case, nothing less than that combat report will convince me. Otherwise, what we have here is a difference of opinion. And you know how common they are. I await your next remark. Shooter sends |
