Hello all, I'm a new member looking for any and all information anyone can point me to regarding the Austro-Hungarian WKF Dr1 Triplane. It seems there is almost nothing available on this plane on the net. I've only been able to find a couple of pics and drawings.
Any help at all is appreciated. Cheers, Iban. |
Probaly the most info available would be in "Austro-Hungarian army Aircraft of World War One".

Hello:
Here is a site with a photo. http://209.235.66.44/WW1/TriMadness/WKF-Dr1.jpg Most of these photos came from THE FIGHTING TRIPLANES by Hadingham, which is always worth a look. Dave |
Thanks Leo. I'm trying to get a copy of that book (it's the one by Peter Grosz, right?) but FMP has been bought out and isn't printing it any more, and amazon has 3 other people in line for a used copy, ahead of me. If you'd like to part with your copy, please let me know! ;)
Dave, Triplane madness was one of only two images I was able to find on the net. Unfortunately I've been there already, but thanks for the heads-up. I wouldn't mind a copy of fighting triplanes anyway, so now I have an excuse. :) Thanks to you both for your replies. Iban. |
Dave:
Thanks for the picture. I had never seen that view before. Iban: Yes, that's the book, but I would never part with mine. I am a fan of the kuk LFT. I hope you find one, its a great work. |
Iban,
Regarding FMP, you are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. ;) They are producing as well as ever. The company was bought by Paladin Press and is now a subsidiary. Paladin is dedicated to the same ideal as it's original founders, Jack Herris and Alan Durkota. In fact, since the aquisition in 2000, the books brought out by FMP have been: Pfalz Aircraft of WWI by Jack Herris, DeHavilland Aircraft of WWI vol. I by Colin Owers, vol. II is either now released or soon will be. Numerous other titles are in the works so stay tuned... And for the good news, The Austro-Hungarian Army Aircraft book will be reprinted soon as will others that are out of print including the French Aircraft of WWI book. Go to their website at www.flying-machines.com Cig |
As confirmation of whatCigogne just posted, I just ordered the Pfalz book for myself and the one on the Russian airforce for Mother Russia.

Yummy! I just received my new copy of Austro-Hungarian Army Aircraft of WWI by Peter Grosz, the newly reissued edition from Flying Machines Press. It's positively delicious, except for one sad casualty.
Unfortunately, due to subsequent discovery between editions that the fabric swatches they had based their color schemes on were, uh, fabricated, they decided, in the interests of accuracy, not to include any of the color plates in this edition. Major bummer! I totally understand and agree with their pursuit of accuracy, and yet I would still desperately like to see those plates. After all, the dual monarchy more than any other power used varnished natural plywood and doped linen as their primary aircraft colors, and given fading, weathering, the various wood and varnish types used, etc., how wrong can those colors be? So now I'm wondering... Since I paid for the book (which was advertized, btw, as containing all these color drawings) now, if some kind person who has a copy of the old edition was to be so generous as to send me a scan of the color plates that weren't included in my edition--that wouldn't be a copyright violation, would it? [he says, with a winsome smile, hoping someone who has the old edition will take note]. My thanks in advance to you, if you happen to be that very kind person! Cheers! iban. Quote:

What would be even better would be if they could put it up on their website. I've been looking for this book for quite a while (I have several other FMP books and they're all superb) and I might hold out and see if I can find a second hand one. If they put the pictures up on their website I'm sure it would be a good advertisement for that book (and their other ones) as well as encouraging me (and maybe others too) to buy the new edition.
Have fun Finn |
I would suggest an occasional search of addall.com for the book. http://used.addall.com You might get lucky and find that gemstone for which you're searching.
