Hey Doug,
I like the way you are thinking.
You might have gone just a little too far with the Amber though (I think).
But, and Dan San will come in on this definitely at some point, the fabric was died in stages... So I think that your "uneven die" affect might be a bit extreme.
Cheers,
Hugh

Dull , uneven????
Doug Baumann:
What your statement tells me, you have never seen actual fabric. The color are strong, brillant and evenly printed.
The process of printing the fabric is not staged, it is done at one time. The are either 4 or 5 metal rollers, one for each color, synchronized together to print slightly over lapping patterns, approximately 3 to 5 mm. The roller have a printing surface 1400m wide. The cloth is either 1300 mm wide (4 color) or 1340mm wide (5 color) The linen fabric after the finishing processes are done and the fabric has been dried goes the printing process followed by a drying proces and then is put up in manufactures rolls, about 500 to 600 meters long. This is later rerolled in to shipping rolls of around 100 meters long. In this process the fabric is inspected for defects which are marked at the edges with tuffs of colored yarn. This is what the aircraft manufacturers get.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Doug,
While I see variation in color in close up photos of reproduction fabric, I doubt it would be visible at the scale you posted. You have produced a neat effect, but I think it is out of scale.
I believe that the doped fabric should be darker, and slightly more saturated than the untreated fabric. By just adding amber, you have made it lighter and less saturated.

thank you SCMc its the one of many tests... out of scale maybe! but most of our models are photoed at close range well with in real air craft photos see what i am trying to say if you can see it on the real aircraft at so many feet from it why not our models ... photos are in a scale also ...

Original lozenge fabric here!
Doug,
Here is my original Fokker D.VII top-left wing 'five-color' lozenge fabric with 4:5 style German cross for your viewing. Note the rather muted colors due to two reasons -time and an aged yellowish final vanish coating, mostly cracked now, that was applied over the clear doped fabric.
Let me know if you want more photos, like of the backside, or close ups.
Regards, Gary Sewall
